TAI CHI CLASSES
At the Chen Tai Chi School of Thailand we study the oldest form in tai chi – Laojia. The first course studied at the school is for the short and comfortable 9 form Laojia Old Frame, the Chen warm up techniques, silk reeling exercises (internal movement practice) and ‘fah- jin’ (the Chen Style explosive moments). This will take 2 to 3 months of study. After a simple exam, the student is then allowed to progress to the more difficult 18 form, followed then by the 39 and full 74 Laojia form.
Periodically we close the membership to allow the students to move on before any new members join.

'Map'

The Chen Tai Chi School of Thailand aims to be a friendly club of tai chi brothers and sisters and we welcome everybody. It is our belief that Chen Style Tai Chi is not well understood in Thailand as most people study the Yang Style and we aim to inform and instruct people about the beauty of this ancient art through our links to a true Chen Family Master.

What is Chen Style Tai Chi?

Chen Tai Chi is most simply described as ‘Skeleton Mechanics’ as it teaches the practitioner how to move using the skeleton to lead the body. It is this use of the skeleton to move the body that refreshes the joints and relaxes the muscles to boost your health – however old you may be.

The beginning of study consists of a definite series of exercises designed to start to remove the stresses and tensions that build within the mind and body throughout our lives to leave us mentally fresher, bodily fitter and feeling younger. The unique Chen warm up exercises on their own can start the process of refreshing the body. They are designed to gradually ‘break’ the stresses in the back, shoulders, neck, chest, arms, knees, ankles and hip to encourage blood flow which helps repair any joint damage and build new cartilage.

Correct breathing is one of the elixirs of life of Chinese medicine and an essential part of any change in lifestyle, be it through Yoga, Meditation or Tai Chi. Learning how to drop the diaphragm and breathe to the stomach acts to still the mind, expand the lungs and is also a free internal organ massage. The breathing and warm up exercises of the Chen style are effective in relaxing and preparing the body and mind for studying the art of ‘silk reeling’ - the study and practice of how to turn the torso, how to make the inside of the body move the outside – the practice of the internal art of Chen Tai Chi! Of the five main styles of Tai Chi, Chen style encourages the greatest use of internal movement which can be then used for martial training with the use of ‘fah-jin’- explosive power. The strength of Chen Style as a martial art is legendary.

Proven health benefits of Chen Style Tai Chi include lower blood pressure, increased bone density (especially good in inhibiting osteoporosis), stress reduction, a stronger immune system, improved balance, better concentration, an avoidance of arthritis, supple joints, improved posture, weight loss and can also help with back problems. Recent research also links the study of tai chi with improved mental health because the precise special awareness within this art increases cross brain activity to ‘unearth’ buried emotional problems.

Teacher

Jack is from Manchester, England and has studied Chen Style Tai Chi for 10 years. Firstly with Howard Walmsley in Manchester, then through a course with 19th Generation Grand Master Zhu Tiancai and is now an indoor student of 20th Generation Chen Style Tai Chi Master LiuYong in Lianyungang, China. He is certificated from Master Zhu and from Master LiuYong for the Laojia form.

Jack was encouraged to study Chen Style Tai Chi due to a recurring back problem caused by a broken hip as a child and through the help of expert teachers, this is now not a problem. A damaged knee cartilage from a recent accident and operation has now also been fixed through diligent practice and to the pride of Master LiuYong.  Jack is a very happy guy and living proof of the healing qualities of tai chi.

Jack is a member of the Master LiuYong Chen Style Tai Chi International Association.
